A perfect dream of an island - vitality and culture

Majorca, in Latin: insula maior, later Maiorica "the largest island", is in comparison to Minorca the largest island of the Balearic Group. Official languages are Catalan and Spanish. Majorca is located east of the Spanish mainland between 39°15′40″ and 39°57´40" northern latitude and between 2°19′38″ and 3°28′42 eastern longitude. Majorca with Cabrera and Dragonera is 3.640 km² large and has a coast line of 585 km and about 800.000 inhabitants whereof 380.000 live in Palma. MAJORCA has a moderate subtropical climate with 8 sunshine hours per day in average and a rainfall of 1.300 mm in the northwest and 400 millimeter in the south per year. In wintertime there is because of the island position a mild and humid climate and in the Tramuntana Mountains with 10 peaks over 1.000 metres is also snowfall possible. In the summertime there is little rain and the temperatures can reach up to 40°C in the inland of the island. In January and February it is frequently calm with mild weather conditions, the so called Calmes. Ripe citrons and oranges, the well known almond blossom and green meadows with lots of natural flowers give the island in springtime a very special atmosphere.
